Fulham Gladius

This is a Fulham Pattern Gladius with a leaf shape, lightly patinated blade.
The blade is based on an original from the 1st Century found in the river Thames at Fulham.
The handle is hornbeam and the guard and pommel are carved in Roman Oak.

The timber we have used for the fittings was felled towards the end of the First Century AD.
This oak was excavated in London and is thought to have once formed part of the Roman docks on the Thames.
The Guard is fitted with an inset steel plate.
